(to make up for the sadness of this post, I will be posting all the Jalop pictures my dad has taken on his extended euro tour)
First, have an Auto Union limo at VW's Dresden Glass Factory, home of the Phaeton. Now That I got you here, let's talk about something depressing- real life. More importantly, how it interferes with this hobby of ours. Well, as you know, my stable includes 3 cars. A leased 2012 Hyundai Sonata, A 2002 Saab 9-3 Viggen that I'm babysitting for my dad while he's in europe for a year, and the only car I have ever owned outright, with the title in my name, also my first classic car, my '73 Bimmer 2002. Well my dad comes home in 2 months, and my lease is up in august. Me being completely devoted to cars, all of my extra money has gone into my various projects/flips/beaters. So needless to say, Come august I will be out of reliable day-to-day transportation. But, luckily for me, I'm the oldest grandson, in college, and working, a point which my grandfather has noticed, as he has told me he would either A) Give me his current car, a 2004 Honda Pilot with every option but nav and a sunroof, But includes heated leather seats and a 6 disc CD changer, or, B) Give me money to buy the Hyundai out of the lease. Now as attached as I am to my stupid Hyundai, Let's face it, it was owned since new by a teenager and I haven't exactly taken care of it as much as I would have liked to, plus it's not that great in the snow, and snow capability is something I have thought about this winter. So I would probably choose the un-jalop gray Honda crossover. However, as these things go, it isn't that simple as "lease is up, receive free car/SUV". I've been met with an ultimatum- but first, to offset the depression, have the Juan Manuel Fangio memorial in Monaco with some Euro-babes
Well I've been told to sell my 2002 by july or be SOL with having a daily.
Have a Clio beater in naples for good measure.
Anyway, The real thing that scares me is that Honestly, I'm in way over my head with the BMW and have secretly always wanted the Pilot. So let's take a look at our case- a former cadillac mechanic selling his classic BMW to get a late model honda soccer mom truck. This is where I ask you- Have I lost any and all gear head cred? Am I no longer a jalop? Keep in mind, I'm still a bit of a nerd when it comes to cars, but I don't enjoy working on them or going to meets.
Here's a streched Trabi in Dresden.
Anyway, I guess that's all I wanted to say.
TL;DR: I want to get rid of my '73 BMW 2002 so I can have a 2004 Honda Pilot. Am I no longer a true gear head?
Now some photo dump for listening for a few
Aventador and other goodies outside of the Monte Carlo casino.
classic Bentley outside of Westminster Abbey
Old school Simson IFA S51 in Dresden
Architect's model of the Phaeton Factory
500 Roadster, Naples
That's all for now.

A true gearhead does whatever they can to have four wheels underneath them. If it means selling your toy to have a car which can bring you to work, and school, and in turn earn you money, it is serving the gearhead purpose.

No, life calls. However, you will have to make up for this and get some real jalop cars when the time comes around.:)

A gearhead is a state of mind. You love cars with a passion unbridled enough to have owned a classic BMW, to feel this intensely about a car and ultimately, to seek out this place and be amongst like minded fellows. You're a gearhead, and if you were the metric required to be a gearhead, I wouldn't be allowed to call myself it. I've never owned a car yet (I came real close to making the worlds stupidest purchase: A clearly knackered Jaguar XJS V12 for $2500) and it's not in my immediate future, but I still call myself and feel like a gearhead.
You do what you need to. If you can keep it with you, mores the better but life comes first and you gotta do what you gotta do. You're young, there's plenty of time left for you to get yourself a Jalop set of wheels when you can. Don't feel bad, this is just a exit on the highway of life and eventually you'll find yourself back in the awesome twisty bits. :)

No way man. Without getting too philosophical, sometimes you need to give up what you want, in order to have what you need. It doesn't matter how "jalop" your DD is. I drive an AUTOMATIC Mazda 3 to and from work. It gets me there without emptying my wallet and doesn't let me down. Would it be cooler to drive a Miata, a 240sx, or an M3? Yeah, maybe. Probably not though. I sit in traffic and I usually don't go over 65mph on my highway-only commute. I guess my point is that sometimes life has to come first and the fun, cool car isn't the best car. Miata isn't always the answer in real life.

what everone her is saying. it may suck, but sometimes you have to. being a gear head is more then just owning something nice. i can think of tonnes of poeple how own nice cars and arent gear heads. they just wanted to out do the neighboors
